Our Methods
Ethical, healthful agriculture in the Comox Valley
Tannadice Farms has established a method of farming that is ethical, sustainable and healthful. Quite simply, it's how we feel farming should be done. We take great care of our animals because we know that the way your food is produced has a profound effect on its nutritional value. Healthy animals produce healthy meat.
- We never feed our animals growth hormones or animal by-products, and we use antibiotics only when necessary to prevent a sick animal from suffering.
- Our Black Angus are allowed to graze the fields when conditions permit and their diet is supplemented by nutrient-rich corn and grass silage. The result is flavourful, marbled meat that's high in conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) - powerful antioxidants that have been shown to fight cancer and even reduce body fat in humans.
- Our pigs live their entire lives without being exposed to most common porcine diseases. They live in comfort, with ample room for running, and we maintain their health and well-being through meticulous cleaning of their barns and regular veterinary check-ups. You'd be hard-pressed to find a healthier – or happier – herd of pigs!
- At Tannadice Farms, we move our chickens onto fresh grass every day or two. As our chickens graze, their meat becomes rich in Omega 3's and CLA. As a result our "pastured poultry" are much healthier than most "free range" birds.
Tannadice Farms is proud to be a part of the Comox Valley's agricultural community and encourages you to support your local farmers whenever possible. Supporting local producers keeps both your family and your community healthy.
